Princess Point at 7am Field Study
In the early autumn of 2024 I set out to Princess Point to do some plein air (outdoor) work. Sometimes I have an idea of where I want to hike to in an area I am visiting. Other times, I allow the day and light to dictate what drives my curiousity and interest. On this particular morning after a brief 15 minute hike I came upon a field of gold that sat beyond a tree line. I, as the observer saw a deep contrast between the brilliance of the glowing field and the deep shadows of the tree line. Beyond the field were landforms that rose above the view providing a dark backdrop for the glowing field.
As I painted the first piece I wondered if the scene would be the same if I returned the next day at the same time of day. So I did. Three days in a row, same spot, same time. Yet three very different experiences. On the final day the haze of day two became a deepening fog that obscured much of the background forms.
I am offering these as a group as I feel they work best that way providing a deepening mood of changing seasons.
These original oil sketches are 9” high and 12” wide on wood panels. ALL artwork in the Sketches, Drawings and Experiments section arrive without frames or hanging hardware. Small work is shipped flat in padded envelopes. Larger works are rolled and shipped in a tube. However, if you prefer, I can source framing for you and provide that as an add-on option. Please contact me for details.
