The Art of Cheryl-Ann Hills - Art in the Wilderness

So here it is: I've never been average. Never been one in the crowd. Everything I do, everyone I meet I seem to always have ideas outside of the everyday. I didn't know what that was called until I read a book called "Outliers" by Malcom Gladwell, a wonderful Canadian author and motivational speaker. An Outlier is someone who is atypical, outside the "norm". Looking through this site I'm sure you will agree my work both visual and written are not like any others work. Sure, some similarities occur but overall I have my own way of seeing the world and moving through it. So attempting to build a website like everyone else's was impossible. The thread that weaves everything together is my deep love and respect for nature and all living things, my love for bold colour, and my emphasis on strong composition, even in my writing.

The Visual Art of Cheryl-Ann Hills

    Northern Ontario

This collection includes work that was completed both en plein air (outdoors on location) and work completed in the studio. All work is inspired by my frequent trips to Ontario North. My favourite spots are along the TransCanada Highway between Sudbury and Sault St Marie and further west to Thunder Bay.

  • a photo of a forest along the Bruce Trail

    Southern Ontario

I hadn’t noticed that I was creating a body of work that featured my favourite views of Southern Ontario until I began sorting through work for this new site. So here it is, the Southern Ontario Collection featuring places that you may know and some you should go discover.

    Surrealism

The surrealist feel of my work happened without intention. People would often comment that they saw a surrealist influence in my work. So I began to dig deeper and created a collection of work that explores the surreal in the landscape. My interpretation of the style and the emotion of the not-quite-real.
